These parameters often appear mysterious and difficult to understand and are therefore ignored. But they are in fact rather simple, and their knowledge is essential for ending up with a satisfactory image.

Introduction to Photoshop
It will be explained how the program is organized and how to set important personal preferences.

Rotating and resampling an image
Apart from rotating (e.g., from vertical to horizontal), it is often important to have the image in the desired size, for example, for printing or easily sending it via e-mail.

Adding a frame to an image
For a better presentation, or adding a space to write a text.

Photoshop Tools and Image Adjustments
Foreground and background color. Zoom, Hand and Eyedropper Tools. Cropping an image. Lightening, darkening and regulating the contrast (levels, curves, brightness/contrast, shadow/highlight). Correct a color cast (color balance, hue/saturation, photo filter).

Working on a portion of an image
Photoshop tools: Brush, History brush, Dodge, Burn, Sponge, Blur and Sharpen. Selecting an area of the image (Lasso, Quick Selection, Magic Wand, Hiding, Feathering and Saving). Applying changes to a selected area (as previously learned for the whole image).

Further techniques in photo retouching
Taking away distracting elements (e.g., a road sign, a plane, a person, etc.). Moving elements inside one image. Altering shape and size of an element.

Converting colors to black and white
In converting color images to black and white, there is the risk of rendering different colors (e.g., red and green) as identical tones of gray. It will be shown how to avoid this problem and obtain impressive black-and-white images.

Layers
Images with more than one layer. Moving elements from one image to another. The Eraser Tool.

The Type tool
Adding text to an image.

Correcting perspective
In pictures of buildings, vertical lines can converge, giving the impression that the building is falling backward. This and other distorted perspectives can be easily corrected.

Improving portraits
Some techniques for improving a portrait include reducing wrinkles and eye bags, smoothing the skin, taking away boils or other skin imperfections, reducing the shine on a specific area (e.g., the nose), and altering the color of the eyes. Many of these techniques are just adaptations of those previously learned and will provide an example of how they can be easily applied to different situations.

Automating Photoshop
Actions and the Image Processor.

Digital photography without Photoshop is unthinkable and has enormous limits.
