Advanced Layers

Various techniques that employ the advanced use of Photoshop Layers

Multiple lighting in post-production
Shooting a subject with several light sources and then switching each of them on and off independently, plus regulating the intensity of the light source. All this is not done while taking the picture, but in post-production with Photoshop.

Example of multiple lighting in post-production. Three pictures were taken, one for each light source employed. In Photoshop the three images are fused into a single image. The three lights can be switched on and off independently, and the intensity of every single light can be regulated as desired. Here it is shown in one of the many possible combinations (light A at 100% intensity, light B at 60% intensity and light C at 40% intensity).

Tilt/Shif
How to reduce depth of field in post-production and along a desired plane.

Example of Tilt-Shift effect. It was decided to apply a gradual blur, leaving in focus a band parallel to the main axis of the glasses.

Maximum depth of field
How to obtain an image with everything in focus, even in extreme macrophotography.

Example of increase of depth of field. The final image is the result of blending nine shots and taking only what is in focus from each of them.

Smart Objects
What they are and how and when to use them.

Make it glow
A technique that can be applied to some images to make part of the picture almost luminescent. A Photoshop Action for “Make it glow” will be provided.

Example of an image to which the “Make it glow” technique was applied.
