You use a camera but it still remains a rather mysterious object? You would like to better understand its function in order to operate it to the best of your ability and to exercise greater control over your future production? These notions will liberate you from all the constrictions of the basics, where it’s the camera that makes the technical decisions.
You will not be taught the use of your specific camera model, but the technical aspects of photography that are valid for all cameras.
The digital technique
A few basic but extremely important (and often ignored) notions: digital formats, color spaces, and white balance.
Shutter speed, Aperture, Depth of Field and Exposure
Essential technical aspects for having control over the final result (e.g., what will be in focus and what will be out of focus).
Exposure in difficult situations
Cameras do not do everything themselves! There are situations (e.g., a white flower, a sunset, a backlit subject) when the camera does not expose properly. Knowing what to do means not missing what are often the most magical shots.
The “normal” lens (50mm)
Advantages and disadvantages of using a lens made popular during the digital era.
The other lenses
The wide-angle lens and the hyper-focal distance; The tele-lens and the compression technique. How to better employ the different lenses and/or the zoom lens.
